What is a Mood Ring?
A mood ring is a ring that contains a thermochromic element, such as liquid crystal, that changes colors based upon the temperature of the finger of the wearer.
Me and My Mood rings come with a color chart indicating the mood of the wearer based upon the colors indicated on the jewel.
Mood rings were created in 1975 by two New York inventors, Josh Reynolds and Maris Ambats, who bonded liquid crystals with quartz stones set into rings that rapidly becoming a fad in the 1970s.
A mood ring is a like a liquid crystal thermometer. My jewels are all made the same way : a quartz or glass capsule is fixed on a thin sheet of liquid crystal. Read my article dedicated to the mood rings manufacture here.Changes in temperature cause the crystal to reflect different wavelengths of light which changes the color of the stone. On the photo, mood ring Mood Drop has been photographied without filter.
The liquid crystal used in mood rings is usually set up to display a “neutral” color at the average human skin temperature, which is approximately 34 °C (93 °F).
Body temperature changes when a person’s mood changes. For example, happiness may slightly increase your peripheral (outer) body temperature as your body sends more blood outward to your extremities. Likewise, fear or stress may reduce peripheral body temperature as your body sends more blood toward your internal organs in a protective response.
As your fingers get hotter or colder in response to bodily changes, my magic rings change color. Of course, air temperature also have an effect on the color of mood rings .
Me and My Mood jewels are real fun to wear and you will see them change color throughout the day!
